What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained professional who offers continuous emotional, physical, and informational support throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. My role is to walk alongside you — not to make decisions for you, but to help you feel confident, grounded, and deeply supported through every stage of this journey.

Doulas provide steady, compassionate presence during labor — helping with comfort measures, movement, breathing, and clear communication with your care team. We create an environment that feels calm and centered, wherever you choose to give birth. Afterward, we continue supporting your transition into parenthood — with guidance for recovery, feeding, and emotional wellbeing.

The Evidence for Doula Support

The benefits of doula care are well documented. A Cochrane Review of more than 15,000 births across 26 trials found that continuous support from a trained doula was associated with:

  • 39% lower risk of cesarean birth

  • 15% higher likelihood of spontaneous vaginal birth

  • Shorter labors (by about 40 minutes on average)

  • Reduced use of pain medication

  • Higher Apgar scores for newborns

  • And most meaningfully — more positive birth experiences

As doulas, midwives, nurses, and doctors, it’s important to never underestimate how deeply entrusted we are with someone’s most vulnerable, raw, authentic self. We witness their heroic journeys, see them emerge with their babies, hearts wide open…
